Heart diseases are the disorders that affect the heart. Diseases under the heart diseases umbrella include blood vessel diseases, such as coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias), and heart defects i.e. congenital heart defects, Rheumatic heart disease, Hypertensive heart disease, Ischemic heart disease, Hypertension etc.

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can't pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. The term “Heart failure “doesn’t mean that the heart has stopped its functions. CHD can lead to heart failure by weakening the heart muscle over time. However, heart failure is a serious condition that requires medical care.

Hypertensive heart disease is caused by the high blood pressure that affects the heart. The symptoms and signs of hypertensive heart disease will depend on whether or not it is accompanied by heart failure. The heart working under increased pressure leads to some other heart disorders. Hypertensive heart disease includes heart failure, thickening of the heart muscle, coronary artery disease, etc. In the absence of heart failure, hypertension, with or without enlargement of the heart (left ventricular hypertrophy) is usually symptomless. Nuclear medicine is the method in which small amounts of radioactive materials are used & are called as radiotracers that are typically injected into the bloodstream, inhaled or swallowed. The radiotracer travels through the area being examined and gives off energy in the form of gamma rays which are detected by a special camera and a computer to create images of the inside of your body. Nuclear medicine imaging provides unique information that often cannot be obtained using other imaging procedures and offers the potential to identify disease in its earliest stages, the myocardial perfusion imaging is the commonly used in Nuclear Cardiology.

Stockholm, probably the most planned city of northern Europe, has long been a well-known city. The current survey on number of persons with cardiovascular and cardiac disease manifestations in the Sweden says that, although the mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD) in our country has declined, its disease burden remains high. The Heart Failure Research Centre (HFRC) is a research centre within the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) in Stockholm, the Sweden. The research groups bundled within the HFRC focus research primarily on the clinical domains of congenital heart defects, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. This initiative is supported by the Cardiology Disparities Reduction Program Partnership (HDRPP), a research partnership between NHLBI, NINDS and PCORI, with funds provided by PCORI to the NIH.

The fund allotment granted by the NIH is raised up to $21,500,000 worldwide for supporting research works associated with the advances in treatment and management of Cardiology.
